Meet the Specialists

William Tan

William graduated with a BSc. (Hons) in Psychology at International Medical University, Malaysia, and currently pursing MEd (Developmental Psychology) at National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. During his studies, he has completed various modules such as behavior modification, sensation and perception, personality, cognitive, social and emotional development and assessment for children.

Before William joined the master program at NIE, he worked as a special needs educator and occupational therapist assistant with a profound commitment to cultivating a positive and inclusive learning environment for individuals with various developmental needs in Malaysia. His main job scopes are providing individual education programs, early intervention programs and social skills sessions for the special needs individuals. The approach that he used for the diverse learners while assisting the occupational therapist is based on sensory integration (SI) frame of reference and emphasizes more on their praxis skills. With the guidance of the occupational therapist, William had the chance to observe and assist the therapist to conduct the developmental tests of visual perception and motor coordination for children such as Beery VMI, which will help them move forward toward more fully integrating all their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual parts with the whole of their selves and others.

William has over two years of experience delivering home-based Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapy, working with children across a wide spectrum of autism spectrum disorders. He is skilled in adapting therapeutic interventions to address the diverse needs and functional levels of each child, ensuring individualized support and progress.

Other than that, he had successfully completed PEERS® for Adolescents Certified Teleconference in April, 2023.  Currently, he works as a student volunteer with RSP Intellectually Disabled to assist the sessions every Saturday for PWIDs at MINDS WGS.

His motivation stems from a profound passion for empowering individuals with special needs to reach their full potential. He recognizes the significance of creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment that not only supports academic progress but also instills a love for learning and promotes essential social skills for life beyond the classroom. He eagerly anticipates the possibility of collaborating to create an inclusive and enriching learning experience for all.
